25AH channels artistic imperfection in Market Art Fair’s identity
When 25AH set out to rebrand Market Art Fair, the Nordic region’s leading contemporary art marketplace, they faced a complex challenge. How do you create an identity that’s sophisticated enough for seasoned collectors, approachable enough for curious newcomers and flexible enough to refresh itself annually without losing recognition? The Stockholm-based agency’s solution centres around a deceptively simple idea: controlled imperfection. The wordmark, set in a customised version of Droulers Clarendon, features one deliberately askew element – a tilted, italicised ‘R’ that breaks the otherwise pristine serif lineup. “The identity revolves around the italicised, tilted ‘R,’ symbolising creativity at the heart of the fair,” Creative Director Fredrik Remnefalk explains. “We saw the need for something distinctive that could serve as a signature for the fair and, on its own, act as a clear and recognised brand element.” It’s a smart move that speaks to art’s inherent relationship with imperfection. While the rest of the letters maintain their classical composure, that single tilted character becomes a visual metaphor for the creative process itself – where perfect technique meets spontaneous expression. The broader identity builds outward from this central concept. 25AH developed a graphic pattern system using extreme close-ups of the logo, creating abstract compositions that mirror how viewers experience art itself. “This mirrors the many ways audiences can experience and interpret art,” Remnefalk notes, “resulting in a versatile and dynamic visual language that reinforces Market Art Fair’s presence as a brand while offering endless creative possibilities.”
