Baillat Studio creates a collectible debut print issue for IC3Y Mag
Seven years of digital interviews, artist features and cultural documentation don’t just automatically translate into a print magazine. When Montreal’s IC3Y MAG decided to create their first-ever printed edition in 2025, they faced the challenge of distilling nearly a decade of online content into something that would feel cohesive, intentional and worth keeping on your coffee table. The result, titled ‘The Archive Issue,’ represents a careful curation of conversations and photography spanning 2023 to 2025, featuring artists like Oklou, Boy Harsher, Gus Dapperton and FVCKRENDER. At 100 pages, the publication explores the intersections of music, design and technology through a lens that treats each feature as its own distinct chapter in a larger cultural narrative. Baillat Studio approached the design with what Founder & Art Director JS Baillat describes as an intuitive process. “We use an intuitive design approach at the studio. Since we are immersed in all of those cultures, our approach was to quickly combine typography and images with a sense of boldness but balanced with elegance,” he explains. The collaboration between Baillat’s experience and Design Intern Adrien Gantner brought both seasoned intuition and fresh organisation to the project. The archival concept influenced every design decision, from typography to layout structure. Dates, locations and times receive particular emphasis throughout the issue, grounding each story in specific moments while creating what Baillat calls “a rhythm that feels both curated and timeless.” This approach transforms individual interviews into self-contained experiences that still contribute to the publication’s overall flow.
