Building the Motherverse: Alright Studio and Mother’s tale of two studios and one operating system
Two design studios walk into a meeting… and while there’s no punchline here, there is a very punchy project, thanks to Mother and Alright Studio’s collaboration, culminating in a digital makeover that unites Mother’s global presence. Reflecting on the two-year journey, both sides – Garrett DeRossett, Tucker Schoos and Teah Brands from Alright Studio and Mother Design’s Mark Sloan – share insights on how they built an operating system that’s equal parts functional and delightfully weird. Here’s how the creative partnership came to life, from its initial spark to the final digital experience that reimagines the Motherverse. PT: So, Mark, to get the ball rolling, why a rebrand now? Where did the idea for a unifying ‘OS’ for Mother come from? MS: We decided that our websites needed to be a bit more forthcoming and let people know how to get in touch with us and what the hell we were capable of. It was time. We’ve always been hesitant to brand Mother in a dogmatic fashion, so a flexible solution was going to be required.
