Company Policy proves AI branding doesn’t need cold digital aesthetics
As AI continues to expand, a new crisis is emerging around the energy needed to power it. Normal Computing, founded by former members of Google Brain and Google X, is building AI-native semiconductor hardware to solve this impending energy crisis. When they approached Company Policy for a new brand identity, the challenge was clear: how do you make complex, layered technology feel distinctly human in a space saturated with cold, digital aesthetics? Company Policy’s approach ditched the usual AI tropes in favour of a structured, grid-forward system with motion that hints at unpeeling layers of intelligence. “Too often AI design is filled with buzzy jargon words and feels cold or unhuman,” explains Founder & ECD Adam Katz. “We looked to avoid the design tropes of digital type and austere graphics with gradients and wires and blue light glows.” Instead, the team drew inspiration from nature, where silicon is mined, bringing a humanist feel through typography and mathematical diagrams. The grid system serves as more than a structural foundation. “Our usage of a grid and motion showcases the layers of research and technical expertise that their team is bringing to their product design,” notes Head of Ops Nicole Banda. “We used this as a mechanism to build a diagram language allowing our ‘Normal’ highlight to be a bit off to show that their are real humans behind the technology.” This deliberate imperfection reflects Company Policy’s belief that the current design process is antiquated, favouring quick, iterative solutions over formal complexity.
