Don’t stop playing! ‘Play is the Highest Form of Research’ makes a case for unfettered curiosity
Los Angeles and London-based design and strategy studio Explorers Club may be known for their work, from the entrancing visuals of their identity for Atlantic Records to the globe-trotting spirit of Sound International’s new look. But, as they keenly remind us, play is an integral part of the process too. Building upon the momentum of their games night, Dey Play, and talk series Open Dialogue (both spaces for dialogue and discovery), they have released a book that compiles quotes from various creatives across multiple fields, emphasising the value of curiosity in uncovering the inherent genius within. Aaron Skipper, Co-founder & Creative Director, chats with us about the story of the publication, his own approach to play within his practice, and how he and Co-founder Ayo Fagbemi hope to challenge the industry to embrace spontaneity and childlike curiosity as catalysts for innovative creativity. PT: Hi Aaron! What was the initial spark that led to the creation of this book? And where did the title come from?
