Ever wanted to design your own font? Blaze Type’s guide will teach you how to do it like a pro

Blaze Type, admired worldwide for their forward-thinking and accessible typefaces, have democratised their vast experience designing type into a physical and digital book – suitably named How to Design Fonts. Led by the Lyon-based foundry’s Matthieu Salvaggio, the project details the ins and outs of type design, from initial creation to production. Doing as it says on the tin, the book is packed with guidance, tips and tutorials arranged in a straightforward manner; cutting through the noise, confusion and high barrier to entry that often exists for type design beginners. Alongside Léon Hugues’ editorial creativity and Allan Gomila’s kinetic contributions, Salvaggio also partnered with Canadian web designer Paul Lapkin to craft the project’s website; using the no-code tool Framer. As a result, the combination of Blaze Type’s aesthetic and educational offering flourishes on screen and in print.
