For Gota’s wordmark, FAENA Studio experimented with ink and droppers until they found the final look
Gota, an organic wine produced by a Mexican family in La Alcarria, Spain, and brought to life in collaboration with chef Marco Carboni, is not meant for serious, uptight environments. It’s a range of wines – with four light varieties – that are designed to be enjoyed in a relaxed setting, perhaps while letting your hair down and washing away your worries with the wine’s delectable mouthfeel. When Mexico City-based FAENA Studio were invited to design the identity for Gota, they knew their ideas had to speak to this truth of the brand, and embody its laid-back, unpretentious character. To do this, the team arrived at the concept of a night well-enjoyed, and everything that’s left in its wake. The visual direction hinged on the carefree vibe of a memorable night with friends – “where spontaneity reigns, and simplicity takes the spotlight,” Design Director Hugo Villa tells us. “We drew inspiration from the subtle traces left behind after a gathering – the wine stains on a table or the marks on a napkin. These imperfections are not seen as messes, but as integral parts of the experience. Our goal was to craft a visual identity that feels fresh, effortless, and perfectly in tune with the natural energy of Gota.” The art direction carries this thought forward, with ink splatters all around, and everything caught in a melting, dripping effect. For the wordmark, the team began playing with ink and droppers, going through numerous iterations, until they arrived at the final shape. “The process of creating the wordmark was all about embracing the raw, imperfect beauty of accidental marks,” Villa explains. “We experimented with ink and droppers, letting the fluidity of the medium guide the design. It was a playful, hands-on journey of trial and error, allowing the process to mirror the spontaneity and authenticity of the brand.”
