Boring Studios turned day job frustration into creative entrepreneurship
For Penelope Stephens and Eden Brandenburg, the breaking point wasn’t just a toxic boss or impossible deadlines – it was trying to book a dentist appointment. After years of navigating agency bureaucracy and having their creativity “squished” by corporate constraints, the Melbourne-based creative couple made a decisive break in April 2023, launching Boring Studios with a mission to help fellow creatives looking to move away from the 9-5. What started as a client-facing design business has evolved into something bigger: a platform offering templates, courses and tools specifically designed to help creatives transition from employee to entrepreneur. With their characteristically blunt approach and anti-corporate philosophy, Stephens and Brandenburg are building more than just a business – they’re leading what they call “a revolution of creatives,” proving that freedom isn’t just a dream, but an achievable reality for those willing to do the work. TBI: Hi Eden and Penelope! Could you tell us a little bit about yourselves and your backgrounds before Boring Studios? BS: Hi TBI! (We never use exclamation marks – it's a rule for our brand voice, so you’re special to get this 😂)
