How andstudio cut through the noise of the craft beer industry with Basker’s quiet, thoughtful brand
Lithuanian craft brewery Basker began as a small family-run venture led by a brewing engineer who perfected recipes during late-night experiments with the precision of a scientist and the passion of an artisan. After clocking out from his day job, co-founder Arunas Pimpe would transform into a meticulous beer scientist, working deep into the night. His apartment became a laboratory of sorts – full of handwritten notes, diagrams and experiments documenting every subtle flavour variation and calculations for the perfect hop ratios. The brewing engineer’s notebook, once filled with private experiments and personal notations, would eventually inspire more than just beer recipes – they would become the visual foundation for the brand itself, creating an intimate connection between brewer and drinker. When andstudio was tasked with creating Basker’s identity, they found their inspiration in these documents and handwritten notes. “This visual language, almost like it was taken straight from his notebook, now lives on the packaging,” explains Domas Mikšys, Partner & Art Director at andstudio. Instead of following the craft beer industry’s typical visual chaos, andstudio chose to translate the co-founder’s methodical approach directly onto the cans.
