How Laura Clink and Charlotte Golzari built festival magic from scratch
Some of the best creative work happens when two minds collide in the most unexpected ways. Take Frolic, a conceptual music festival identity that began with Charlotte Golzari sliding into Laura Clink’s inbox with a simple proposition – fancy bringing a festival idea to life? Four months of stolen hours around freelance work later, they’d crafted something that feels authentically festival-ready, despite existing purely in the realm of imagination. The project lives in that sweet spot between urban grit and organic freedom, capturing what Golzari describes as the perfect escape from everyday life. Her manifesto sets the scene with deliberate tension – positioning readers in an urban landscape before plunging them straight into festival atmosphere. “I’m big on showing rather than telling, so I tried to make people feel like they were already there, experiencing it firsthand,” she explains. The strategic line ‘Lose yourself, find the music’ became the gravitational centre for everything that followed. The headlines came organically, often at random moments, weaving in wordplay that references artists she regularly listens to. Since official artist images weren’t an option, these snappy, pun-filled titles had to do serious heavy lifting – something that created a brilliant juxtaposition against Clink’s whimsical visual approach. For Laura, the challenge was translating the sensorial manifesto into a visual system that could balance freedom with structure. Art Nouveau became the natural reference point, not for the entire identity, but specifically for the decorative illustrations. “I took the principles of organic linework and symmetry from Art Nouveau motifs to inform a set of decorative illustrations that could join together to make framing devices,” she notes. These flowing forms feel rhythmic and fluid, almost dancing through compositions while bringing much-needed structure to unite imagery and type.
