Kenshō positions Thai bicycle brand Nich for international success
Taking a beloved 15-year-old cycling brand global isn’t just about scaling up production or finding new distributors. When Thai bicycle manufacturer Nich decided to expand beyond Southeast Asia into North America, Europe and Oceania, they faced a more delicate challenge: how do you evolve an identity that carries deep emotional weight for founders and riders alike? Kenshō Agency found themselves working with something precious – a brand that had genuine heritage in a market often dominated by newer players chasing trends. Nich wasn’t starting from scratch; they were custodians of a story that began in 2009, with hand-painted custom frames and a community that had grown organically around the brand’s distinct character. “The existing identity already carried a strong emotional resonance, not just within the Nich team and its founders, but also across a loyal community of riders, some of whom had lived with the brand for 15 years,” explains Nicholas Naughton-Rumbo, Design Lead at Kenshō. “The challenge lay in refining the identity without erasing that emotional history. This wasn’t a reinvention, it was a respectful evolution. “The team’s approach revealed itself through careful archaeology. Every iteration of the Nich logo since 2013 had retained one defining detail: a distinctive cut through the ‘I’ in the wordmark. Rather than dramatic reinvention, Kenshō treated this small gesture as their anchor point, then refined everything around it. They widened the character set, adjusted spacing and balance, and made subtle structural improvements – all guided by real-world performance needs.
