Koto’s CcType is a type foundry built for the way brands work today
Koto has spent years designing and implementing type within large brand systems, meaning it has to hold up across products, campaigns, motion, websites, billboards, and more. That experience now has a dedicated home – CcType – and launches with a single, versatile typeface rather than a broad catalogue. The foundry is built on a simple belief: modern typography needs to work hard. It needs to be useful without becoming bland. Expressive without becoming fragile. Easy to buy, easy to use, and created with the same level of detail that Koto applies to global brand systems. In this conversation, we speak to Jowey Roden, Koto’s Chief Creative Officer and Co-founder, and Senior Type Designer Dylan Young, about why the studio decided to launch a foundry, how the first release took shape, and what it takes to build type for the way brands really work today. TBI: So, what is CcType? JR: I’d describe it as typography designed for now.
