Leyma’s TAM identity merges brewery attitude with ginger’s fiery spirit
There’s something about the best microbreweries that goes beyond the actual brewing. They’re often tucked away in industrial units on city outskirts, looking utilitarian from the outside but buzzing with experimentation and community inside. Leyma, the Basque Country design studio behind TAM’s vibrant identity, drew on exactly that energy when they set out to give ginger beer the visual boldness it deserves. TAM isn’t trying to be the polite alternative on the soft drinks shelf. This fermented ginger beer comes with four distinct personalities – original, spiced, mint and lemon – each one designed to capture that fiery kick only real ginger can deliver. The challenge for Leyre San Miguel Iribar and her team was creating an identity that could stand proudly alongside craft brews, bringing the same unapologetic confidence to an alcohol-free space. The logo becomes the perfect embodiment of this duality. San Miguel Iribar explains how they achieved that distinctive balance: “The design merges the industrial geometry we associate with those breweries (precise, structured and rooted in craft) with the irregular, organic forms of ginger. That’s where the rounded details of the letterforms come in, softening the rigidity of the structure and giving the wordmark a natural, generous character.” It's a clever bit of visual problem-solving. Rather than choosing between craft precision and organic rawness, they’ve made both work together. The wordmark feels structured enough to signal serious craft credentials, yet warm and approachable enough to invite you in for that first sip.
