Revolt London’s timely ‘Loneliness Kills’ campaign reveals the startling epidemic of loneliness
In light of The World Health Organisation’s declaration of loneliness as a ‘pressing global health threat’ – likening its effects to that of smoking fifteen cigarettes per day – Revolt London has launched Loneliness Kills, an independent, self-initiated project established to combat the feeling’s increasing presence during the holiday season. Taking visual cues from the tobacco industry, the London-based creative consultancy sought to highlight the problem’s startling facts and figures, with 3.3 million chronically lonely people in the United Kingdom, ranging from young to elderly citizens. As such, the campaign’s visual language is stark and somewhat brutal – led by its subversive name ‘Loneliness Kills’ – not sugar-coating the reality of the issue at hand, instead encouraging people to act with kindness and conversation in their everyday lives. Alongside a show at their Farringdon HQ and a website sharing the stats and changes of behaviour that could combat the loneliness epidemic, Revolt London produced an engaging bespoke deck of playing cards, chosen to subvert the solitary nature of solitaire, and instead promote collaborative games whilst highlighting conversation pointers, facts and jokes.
