Sons & Daughters ID provide a charming identity for investment fund Junction with a Belgian twist
Unlike many investment funds that are devoted to finding breakthrough solutions, Junction scales great inventions that already exist. With this grounded approach, they believe that this will make impactful change happen in the area of energy transition. Seeking a look that would communicate this vision, they brought Sons & Daughters ID – a design, strategy and tech collective based in Vilnius – on board to deliver an identity for the fund. In addition to the pre-existing logo (featuring a ‘un’ ligature), the creative team introduced a new pair of typefaces: Jorge Cisterna’s Recoleta and Andrea Biggio’s Tomato Grotesk. “We looked deeply into how typefaces should complement illustrations in both appearance and sensation,” Lead Designer Justina Ciacyte and Creative Director Adomas Jazdauskas explain. “Recoleta struck us as the perfect fit for headlines – boasting gentle and inviting shapes, along with exceptional readability. When it came to body text, we went for Tomato Grotesk, a fantastic fusion of simplicity and character. The added bonus was how its ink traps seamlessly aligned with Recoleta’s forms.” With a founding team consisting of former entrepreneurs and investment professionals, each member brings their own competencies and experience. Therefore, within the visual identity, this ‘junction’ of skills and perspectives is expressed through directional notches, used to divide the layouts and add flourishes of colour.
