Studio Freight embraces the chaotic energy of crypto culture in its rebellious rebrand for Bullpen
Crypto trading platform Bullpen lives in a world of unhinged Telegram threads, manic mood swings and irreverent memes. It’s not a place for corporate suits or sanitised branding – it’s the digital equivalent of traders screaming across a chaotic floor, except they’re doing it at 2am from their phones. When the platform approached Studio Freight for a rebrand, the design team saw an opportunity to create something that would stand out in the crowded space of trading platforms by embracing the community’s authentic, sometimes absurd culture. “Bullpen came to us with a generic brand that wasn’t taking any risks. It didn’t stand out in a crowded space of trading platforms and lacked both excitement and functional clarity,” explains Design Director Matthew Roop. “The product was solid, but the brand system didn't match.” Rather than trying to make crypto trading appear more respectable or professional – a common approach in financial branding – Studio Freight dove headfirst into the community’s digital-native aesthetics. “As with every project, we looked for ways to build real emotional connections. In this case, that meant diving deep into crypto degen meme culture,” says Partner & Creative Director Patrick Torres. “A few of us at Studio Freight have lived that life, so we leaned into every inside joke, acronym and chaotic mood swing we could muster up.” The result is an identity that speaks directly to Bullpen’s audience in their own language. Chat bubbles, reminiscent of the Telegram threads where much of crypto trading discussion happens, became a central motif throughout the brand. These bubbles contain fragments of real trading conversations, from euphoric wins to devastating losses, capturing the emotional rollercoaster that defines the trading experience.
