Studio in focus: how Belinda O’Brien transformed SUPERHAUS from side project to Sydney powerhouse
Belinda O'Brien’s journey into design began with street art and graffiti, where she developed an early obsession with typography. After cutting her teeth in packaging and hospitality branding, working with clients from Coca-Cola to Margot Robbie’s Byron Bay Gin, she established SUPERHAUS as a distinctive force in Sydney’s design scene. The studio crafts “cult brands that inspire movements,” turning ordinary products into everyday rituals that become synonymous with personal identity. O’Brien’s participation in Studio Focus, a programme designed to help studios better understand and grow their business, has further elevated SUPERHAUS to new heights. On the eve of being named as a finalist for one of Australia's top design awards, O’Brien opens up about her evolution from weekend sketching to running a studio that’s reshaping how brands connect with culture. EM: Hi Belinda, how are you? BO: I’m great, thanks! Sydney is really starting to give off summer vibes, the days are getting longer, and the nights are getting spicy! We’ve got a number of projects we’ve spent the better part of the year on that are about to launch which we’re super excited about.
