The Designers: Yihuang Zhou on how Mother Design has made him both a better designer and person
Our interview series The Designers delves deep into the world’s leading design studios through a series of in-depth conversations with the individuals that make them tick. For entry 43, we meet Yihuang Zhou, a Senior Designer at Mother Design whose career and personal endeavours have spanned continents, cultures, and creative disciplines. Here he explains how his unique perspective has been shaped by his experiences growing up in China’s optimism-filled era of rapid urbanisation and his professional life in the United States – from navigating the complexities of cross-cultural design to finding a deep joy in custom typography. PT: Hi Yihuang! It’s great to chat with you. How’s your month going so far? YZ: It’s been quite a month! Dealing with the NYC fall that’s getting shorter and shorter each year, wrapping up projects and kicking off new ones, going back to school, and trying to find time to exercise and get adequate sleep – things are being shaken up a bit, but I’m enjoying it so far.
