The Edit: five projects including Classmate Studio’s elegant packaging for Juhasz Milan Wines
Each and every day, we're lucky to discover dozens of interesting and inspiring projects from around the world. From global identities and campaigns to side projects and independently published books, The Edit is home to five of them; every two weeks. Juhasz Milan Wines are an independent maker of handmade, natural wines from the south of Hungary. Looking for an identity and label design ahead of their launch, they turned to Budapest-based brand design studio Classmate, resulting in a visual language that aims to feel both historic and contemporary at the same time. Juhasz Milan Wines see winemaking as an art form – a view that inspired Classmate to use a series of hand painted patterns to represent the taste profile of each wine. These act as the centrepiece of the brand alongside a fine serif typeface from Finnish foundry No Bad Type. The two leading components come together within an unconventional oval shape for the label, adding a contemporary touch to the ornate feel of the typeface and paintings. International branding agency DesignStudio have created a global campaign for women’s rugby – one of the world’s fastest-growing sports – aiming to build on its momentum and help the sport break into the mainstream. Their concept revolves around a bold collaboration with Argentina-born, LA-based illustrator Xoana Herrera – the result of which is a ‘team’ of original characters that highlight the athleticism, power and diversity found across women’s rugby. The illustrations move and interact with vivid colour and heavy typography as part of a hyper-flexible graphic system; resulting in a visual language that feels like that of no other sport.
