The Edit: five projects including Page Break’s brand by Sasyk Mihal featuring a visual feast of type
Each and every day, we’re lucky to discover dozens of interesting and inspiring projects from around the world. From global identities and campaigns to side projects and independently published books, The Edit is home to five of them; every two weeks. If you ask Page Break what a book club should look like, they have a radical idea. Echoing their unconventional approach, framing reading as a shared adventure, Europe-based designer and art director Sasyk Mihal has crafted an equally dynamic identity – one that calls upon the aesthetics of rave posters. “Page Break is not really a book club; it is a weekend retreat company,” explains Mihal. “It offers weekend retreats where they partner with local chefs to create custom dishes inspired by specific scenes and characters from books. They have a curated wine list, and most importantly, participants read together but also independently, finishing a book together over the weekend.” His responding look captures the energy of having fun and meeting new people, featuring an eclectic mix of ten typefaces which are used in varying combinations and compositions. “Our primary typeface is the very neutral Whyte which balances out the expressive typefaces well,” he adds. Born in Palm Springs, California, 760 Skin harnesses the hydrating properties and skin-boosting benefits of desert plants to create products that nourish and soothe skin. In their identity for the brand, Seattle-based studio Parker leans into the spirit of Palm Springs natives – communicating skincare purity and sophistication without relying on clichéd motifs or imagery. The visual language calls upon the essence of local midcentury design – with clean lines and geometric shapes – while incorporating a youthful energy that resonates with the brand’s target audience.
