The Edit: five projects including RAWTY’s identity for Papperlapapp with a blooming, custom wordmark

by RAWTYHugmunNotOnSundayMast ·

Each and every day, we’re lucky to discover dozens of interesting and inspiring projects from around the world. From global identities and campaigns to side projects and independently published books, The Edit is home to five of them; every two weeks. A world of cardboard and boundless imagination, Papperlapapp is inspiring kids to build a better planet while growing into their most creative selves – one cardboard adventure at a time. The brainchild of Elisabeth Flik, the small Graz-based company creates playworlds from 100% local cardboard – a material that is not only incredibly sturdy and recyclable up to 25 times, but also sequesters more CO2 during its production than it emits. Papperlapapp’s visual identity, designed by RAWTY, echoes the brand’s tagline “where we grow.” The logo, inspired by the perforations of cardboard and blooming flowers, represents exploration, learning and growth through play. The Graz-based graphic design studio also utilises fun colours, bold typography, quirky characters, and childlike illustrations to appeal to kids, while also targeting parents and industry partners who appreciate design. “We are extremely proud of how the brand’s character came together,” says RAWTY’s Co-founder Tessa Huber, reflecting on the project, “from the tone of voice, the logo, to the photos!” We loved Papperlapapp and their vision from the beginning, and we are very thankful to be part of their journey! The most striking feature for us is the cute smile of the little girl in the striped long-sleeve. It gets us every time! ;)” Heralded by a timeless wordmark, the identity for CHARO, crafted by Hugmun, sums up the elegance and self-assuredness of the Polish fashion company – a high-quality, environmentally conscious brand that embodies femininity. The brand’s logo, a key element of the identity, is divided into three segments – an extended, ‘mirror-reflection’ of the name, the full name, and an emblem. This design strategy allows the brand to adapt to various situations, while always conjuring strong associations with fashion, style, and sophistication. Like CHARO’s own commitment to top-tier quality and refinement, the identity aims to be impactful, capturing the understated aesthetics of the ’90s and a dash of Parisian charm.
