Tinge “make a cosy woodside cabin sing” with their warm identity for Bolimówek’s ‘Home for Rent’

For a quick weekend getaway, and only an hour’s drive from Warsaw, Bolimów Landscape Park promises guests a calming break from their busy day-to-day schedule. Considered one of Poland’s most scenic spots, the park contains Bolimówek; a cosy getaway cabin catering for weekend staycations and longer-term WFH rentals. Translating the offline to the online, Warsaw-based design studio Tinge have delivered a fitting identity and tone of voice for Bolimówek that communicate the cabin’s key qualities. The resulting identity is led by a warm, woody shade of brown, tapping into the charm of the cabin’s all-wood interiors and warm-tone fabrics. To accompany this, Tinge opted for a bold typographic direction, deeply rooted in Polish heritage. Laic Type Foundry’s characterful serif Eklektyk was chosen as the main typeface – a decision which also informed the design of a set of icons inspired by folk cutout art from Poland’s Kurpie region. Explaining this further, Tinge’s Founder & Creative Director Izabela Piotrowiak tells us that “this old-time craft, officially listed as Poland’s national heritage, wasn’t popular until the mid-19th century and, most likely, was incorporated into the national tradition from Jewish culture.” Traditionally made using massive shearing scissors, the intricate cutouts – usually “bursting with colours and an array of geometrical shapes” – are hung from windows, walls, and ceilings. “Incorporating this old-fashioned craft into Laic Type Foundry’s remarkably contemporary typeface feels both fresh and old-school,” she continues. The secondary typeface, Kasper Nordkvist’s Uncut Sans, is a highly legible and simple sans serif, providing a versatile constraint to the boldness of Eklektyk.
