Zhenya Rynzhuk designs the COVID Art Museum; an online showcase of quarantine-induced creativity
New York-based art director and designer Zhenya Rynzhuk has designed a world first; the one and only museum for art created to showcase work related to COVID-19 – founded by José Guerrero, Emma Calvo and Irene Llorca. The COVID Art Museum, developed by Synchronized, is an interactive, web-based grid – reminding one to keep their (virtual) social distance – that exhibits the work of hundreds of creatives. A showcase itself in powerful web design, from its features to its animations, the site is phenomenally engaging, keeping your attention and directing it to the work it is supporting. This is made all the more compelling through the austere yet beautiful application of Rynzhuk’s astute typographic pairing; making use of Grilli Type’s GT America and Nolan Paparelli’s Everett. “Everett is mainly used for the body copy because it is very non-intrusive,” Rynzhuk tells us, “I feel GT America and Everett work pretty well together since they are supplementing each other while allowing to keep the visual hierarchy and the overall balance,” she adds, fully utilising the individual skill sets of both in the process.
