2001: A Space Odyssey inspires POST's artwork for techno duo Floorplan's Supernatural LP
Supernatural is the second album from Floorplan, a duo consisting of techno veteran Robert Hood and his daughter Lyric. With roots in the Detroit techno scene from which Robert emerged, Floorplan’s sound is embellished with the heartfelt emotions and unbridled passions of Chicago house music. The music is heavy, analogue and filled with vigour thanks to expert drum programming and well-sculpted synths. London-based studio POST, a long-time collaborator of Floorplan’s record label AUS Music, was commissioned to design Supernatural’s artwork. As with previous albums, POST was only able to hear a few unmastered tracks before starting the design, so chatted to Robert and Lyric to find out some of their inspirations. They presented a range of loose concepts to see if anything resonated, knowing from previous experience that artists are often too engrossed in the music to be thinking about the artwork. The Hood’s warmed to an image of the obelisk and chimps from 2001: A Space Odyssey due to its connection with Supernatural’s extraterrestrial theme.
