Rees Morgan showcases the works of photographer Gloria Wong with a beautiful identity and website

Vancouver-based graphic designer Rees Morgan has created a site for friend, curator and visual artist Gloria Wong, whose photographic practice explores the complexities and nuances of diasporic identities. In order to give focus to the imagery, the site’s colour palette is reflective of an exhibition in a physical gallery. “The main colour of the brand is pink – which is used on the About page – is the equivalent to an exhibition catalogue,” Morgan tells us, explaining the decision behind the delicate hues. “The softer pink was placed on the homepage, much like how the main wall of an exhibition might be painted. White is used on all the pages where the work is displayed.” The rest of the identity is pared-back, quietly complementing the curation of Wong’s photographs. This approach is represented in Morgan’s type selection; Colophon Foundry’s Mabry and Margot Lévêque’s Romie – chosen to help differentiate between Gloria's commercial and personal work, respectively. “Mabry has a playfulness that is balanced with a timeless quality that fits perfectly with Gloria's editorial style,” Morgan explains. “Romie compliments the playful timelessness of Mabry, but adds a personal touch of beauty that fits Gloria's personal work.”
