Studio Kiln’s inflated typographic identity for ‘Too Much To Watch’ jostles for screen time
Every year, the UK’s Royal Television Society organises a two-day event held at the prestigious University of Cambridge where industry leaders engage in insightful discourse about the future of media and its multifaceted evolution. Over 350 industry figureheads attend the two-day convention, which features enlightening keynote talks from various industry trailblazers. The 2023 event, titled ‘Too Much To Watch,’ marked a shift in RTS’s ambitions, and to honour the occasion, Studio Kiln was selected by 4creative to craft a strikingly expressive identity. The objective for the Cornwall-based studio was straightforward – design an identity that perfectly encapsulates the event’s central theme, the staggering abundance of content that both viewers and broadcasters must deftly navigate. The team, led by Co-founders & Creative Directors Charlie Hocking and Nathan Smith, express this in a captivating and dynamic identity that portrays the idea of a crowded screen. Every letter, word, and phrase audaciously vies for our attention, emulating the extensive content array that viewers and broadcasters navigate. The design was seamlessly adapted across multiple touchpoints, with balloon-like letters magnified to dominate screens, book covers, windows, and pillars, creating a delightful yet overwhelming experience for the attendees.
