The Edit: five projects including Daisy Chain’s dreamlike look for State of the Times 2025
Each and every day, we’re lucky to discover dozens of interesting and inspiring projects from around the world. From global identities and campaigns to side projects and independently published books, The Edit is home to five of them; every two weeks. Daisy Chain, the masterful motion collective co-directed by Connor Campbell and Harry Butt, were invited by The New York Times to create the identity for their annual conference, State of the Times. In their second year of designing the look, they show off an impressive ability to read our collective minds, crafting a visual identity that serves as a salve to the never-ending intensity of the news cycle. Soothing gradients and layered halftone patterns, “fresh off the printing press,” evoke a calmer, slower, and softer world. The look is completed with iridescent type treatments and a colour palette that evolves from dawn to dusk throughout the conference day, with content gently drifting into focus. A concept developed for the Oscars Group in Sydney, YOYO reimagines the Japanese steakhouse experience by fusing modern Japanese cuisine with creative innovation. The ambition of the concept, described as ‘vibrant, premium, and playful,’ is brought to life in its identity, designed by Bad, and steeped in a vibrant palette reminiscent of a “neon-drenched Tokyo.” A careful balance of YOYO’s duality is evident in the typography, where the Australia-based creative agency combines Monument Extended Bold for strength and clarity with Space Mono Bold Italic for personality and movement, culminating in a high-contrast pairing that expresses YOYO’s fusion of high-end dining and youthful energy.
