The Edit: five projects including Elizabeth Goodspeed’s radiant art direction for Anyway Magazine
Each and every day, we’re lucky to discover dozens of interesting and inspiring projects from around the world. From global identities and campaigns to side projects and independently published books, The Edit is home to five of them; every two weeks. Designer, writer, and It’s Nice That’s US Editor Elizabeth Goodspeed has provided full creative direction for Anyway, a new media brand and magazine for kids aged between 8-14. In a post-pandemic world, the publication aims to be an authentic and trusted source of information on health, wellbeing, and culture for young readers. Conjuring “the golden age of children’s media on screen,” and the spirit of class kids’ magazines – like Highlights and Nickelodeon Magazine – Goodspeed blends retro-inspired motifs and a joyous colour palette with streamlined layouts and big, bold type. The result is a bright and engaging design direction that is not only highly legible, but also sparks creativity and excitement. The first two issues cover a range of topics including sustainable fashion, personal style, managing anxiety, and interviews with various professionals – all wrapped up in radiant, energetic layouts. Nitty Gritty® has been a prominent part of Stockholm’s fashion scene for over 30 years, with two stores and an online presence. With an eye to the future, the team continuously seeks new ways to redefine the brand, serving as a source of inspiration. Designer Daniel Carlsten captures this energy through his art direction and packaging designs that reflect the brand’s aesthetic, intuitively translating it into elements such as cardboard bags, silver printed silk paper and white boxes. Complementing the core of the visual language, Carlsten’s design solutions also make space for seasonal campaigns, injecting moments of surprise into the brand’s shopping experience.
