Vanderbrand craft a bespoke typeface with Letters from Sweden for One Delisle’s elegant identity

From the mind of architect Jeanne Gang, and the collaboration between her firm Studio Gana and Slate Asset Management, comes the visionary building One Delisle, a tranquil urban build located at downtown Toronto’s Yonge and St. Clair. In need of a comprehensive identity to match the elegance of the property while making reference to the surrounding area, Toronto-based design studio Vanderbrand came on board. Much like the building itself, the project is collaborative at its core, with Berlin-based creative writer Rosie Flanagan crafting a narrative tale to accompany the residential tower’s launch, as well as Letters from Sweden developing a custom headline typeface for the identity. Sleek, slender and sophisticated, One Delisle Display reflects its namesake, taking a contemporary sans serif construction and imbuing its expressive letterforms with an elegant, architectural complexity. Supporting this bespoke creation is Luzi Type’s san serif Spezia and Grilli Type’s GT Super, a refined duo that forms a delicate contrast and aesthetic tension. The brand’s colour palette is similarly luxurious, with a primarily monochromatic treatment used alongside a light sage hue in reference to the building’s neighbouring wild ravine. The combination of soft colours and elegant typography makes for an effortless, thoughtful identity; one led by an understanding of the brand’s story, and confidence in the telling of it.
